Quarrying and Archaeology
Quarry Equipment
If you work in a quarry you will already
know about the link between quarrying and
archaeology. Why not have a look below at
some of the most interesting archaeology
finds the quarry equipment has discovered.
Quarrying and archaeology
Some of Britain's most interesting archaeological
discoveries and remains have been made as
a direct result of quarrying and the quarrying
industry is a major provider of funds for
archaeological digs in the UK. Over recent
years, it is estimated that the quarrying
industry has provided an estimated £10
million to archaeological causes. In fact,
it is normal practice within the quarrying
industry to give unlimited access to archaeologists
when interesting discoveries are made. Quarry
Products Association members subscribe to
a specific Code of Practice on Archaeology
that recommends standards for consultation
and co-operation between operators, planners
and archaeologists.

discovered in a Derbyshire quarry. It
was 10 metres long and was still loaded
