Impactors Benefits
Impactors have
considerable benefits over compression crushers.
Below we have a look at some of these.
More and more quarry operators are choosing
to use impactors over jaw crushers and jaw/
cone crusher combinations for crushing due
to the efficiency and versatility which
impactors offer as regards recycling.
Since impactors underwent their transformation
from secondary crushers to primary crushers
following the end of the Second World War,
their major advantages over any compression
crusher combination have been recognised.
In fact, primary impactors are now considered
to be more beneficial in terms of their
recycling ability, and for many other aggregate
crushing operations. Some of the benefits
associated with impactors include:
- Recycling impactors are much quicker
and have a larger reduction ratio than
jaw crushers. Thus, they are more efficient
and usually do not require a secondary
crusher.
- Although impactors cost more than jaw
crushers, they cost less than a combination
jaw/ cone system, and are more efficient
in production, thus saving money over
the long-term.
- As jaw crushers bite large pieces of
material such as concrete slabs slowly,
steel mesh and rebar are often left embedded
in the concrete. However with an impactor
the concrete slabs shatter instantly,
leaving steel clean so it can be pulled
out by an electromagnetic separator on
the discharge conveyor and sold to a metals
recycler.
- Nearly all recycling impactors currently
on the market are portable enabling them
to be moved to where they are needed.
They range from small, self-contained
mini-crusher which can be used in cramped
areas to large plants capable of crushing
large rubble.
- Often recycling impactor plants are
set up at road or building demolition
and construction sites to crush rubble
on the spot, where it may be reused immediately,
reducing or eliminating the need to purchase
aggregate and resulting in additional
savings in time and hauling costs.
