Quarry Equipment
comes in all shapes and sizes and can be
made up of many different kinds of equipment.
For a comprehensive quarry equipment guide
why not have a look at part one of our glossary
below?
Aggregate - The collective
term for sand, gravel and stone, which can
be used to make concrete amongst other things.
They can be compacted to firmly fill a space
and are often bound together with cement,
to make concrete or bitumen, to re-surface
roads.
Backactor - A hydraulic
excavator with the bucket facing backwards
which sits atop of the material it is excavating.
Cone crusher - A piece
of quarry equipment, a cone crusher breaks
material by squeezing it between cones.
Cone and gyratory crushers break up the
ore by means of a rotating cone. Cone crushers
are comprised of a vertical conical chamber
with a feed opening at the top and a vertical
conical crushing head inside. They are normally
a secondary or tertiary crusher.
Conveyer belt –
the device which carries large quantities
of material from one place to another within
the quarry.
Crusher – A piece
of quarry equipment in which the large rocks
go in order to crush them into smaller aggregate
of different sizes. There are many types
of crushers. Gyratory crushers and cone
crushers are most common.
Crushing plants - are
static or mobile quarry equipment containing
a range of equipment, such as a pre-screener,
loading conveyor, intake hopper, magnetic
separator, crushing unit, such as jaw crushers
and cone crusher etc.
Double impeller impact breaker
- Operates much in the same method as a
single impeller, with counter-rotating impellers
which not only impel the material against
the breaker bars, but also impel material
high inside the chamber to be fractured
on other incoming feed.
Double roll crusher -
A crusher that breaks rocks by compressing
them between two revolving metal cylinders,
with axes parallel to each other and separated
by a space equal to the desired size of
the finished product.
